Kids that Rock... Rock!

A friend of ours, rocker and voice talent Kyf Brewer has his three daughters enrolled in Paul Green's School of Rock.

Here's a video of Scotlyn rocking everyone's favorite James Gang track at their School of Rock "Southern Fried" show last week.

More than just guitar/drum/bass/vocal lessons, the school teaches kids how to play as a group, stage presence, and everything you need to know about rocking. We're talking real rock: AC/DC, Black Sabbath, The Who... these are the music lessons you always wanted when you were a kid.

Check out the documentary on Paul Green and how he got the whole thing rolling. Kids practice together in groups that play Rock School shows, and ultimately real gigs.

Check out the girls' myspace page for more vids and tracks.

Do a shot every time you read the word rock on this post.

How do it know the words?

A student from MIT, Noah Vawter has created a iPod/Walkman device that samples the sounds around you and turns them into a dynamic soundtrack. It uses microphones and DSP to capture and manipulate sound occurring around you and in real-time generates a sound texture for your listening pleasure. Footsteps, jackhammers, car horns, birds can all blend together to create your own personal soundtrack that you can sing along with.

Maybe it should have wireless networking so that you and the people around you can sing together! Musicals aren't actually as far-fetched as you once thought. The townsfolk could actually sing along with you as you prance home from a first date.

See/Hear for yourself!

So, there's this thing out there that I'm not sure you've heard about. It's called the World Wide Web. It's this crazy network of computers that like spans the midwest or something. Apparently, you can watch movies on it! Movies on your computer! So awesome. Next thing you know, you'll be able to do things like talk to other people and show them your resume and maybe even... I'm getting ahead of myself.

Back to the movies thing.

Your friends at GTN have built, as an example of how cool this whole thing is, a website to show their work. Including... Movies with Sound! Check it out and click on stuff.

Don't be afraid to turn it up.

History Lesson

Remember, I said you'd learn something?

Well here we go.

Sunday's featured article on wikipedia is all about the history of sound on film.

I loves me some wikipedia. It's a great resource; an encyclopedia created and edited by everyone. Feel free to review and edit!

Of course, the issue with a reference constructed in such a fashion, people not in full possession of the facts are able to create and edit articles. However, I believe the nature of the wiki community (as well as tools built into the system) keeps the majority of articles accurate. (Notice how I made all those claims without support or references, that sort of thing would be flagged on wiki.)

As always, one needs to double-check and confirm information obtained from anywhere.

You might want to confirm who wrote this article.

Zer0 db breaks 1k...wow

GTN gamertag Zer0 DB has broken the 1000 gamerpoint barrier...wow. What does it mean?

absolutely nothing.

The gamer point system simply keeps track of all of your Achievments that you gain while playing different games. The real value of this is to see how much time you have wasted trying to do something that is completly pointless.
I just thought it would be a good excuse to put this cool gamercard graphic on the blog site.

HEAR THIS

As I progress kicking and screaming forward with this "New" technology of Blog posting, I'll take a giant step backward and cue up some recently dusted off recordings from Bill Grahams library. Check out The Mothers, Hendrix, Zeppelin, Clapton and hundreds other great boots streaming to a computer near you.
Careful - Could induce munchies!
If you want to play drums, but like me, can't. You could just edit!
Enjoy.
